CFD modeling air-conditioning of a car
One of the ways to improve gas mileage of cars is the use of an effective air-conditioning system. Improving the air circulation and decreasing the heat loss through the walls are among the tools to do that. In the present work, a CFD model was developed for the air circulation inside a generic car. The model included the effect of exit angles and air speed on the heat transfer. The effect of convection to the air outside the car was also modeled. A representative R-value for all boundaries was developed in the model. The study included both heat and cooling conditions. It was found that the air speed, angle and inlet distribution have a significant effect on the heat loss and the effectiveness of the car air-conditioning model.
